Bernard Epps has given us a treasure-trove of tales about fascinating folk living their lives with passionate purpose. (Guy Rex Rodgers)
Between now and November 15 is your chance to pre-order these two new books for only $45!
You’ve heard the story of the lost manuscript? Volume 1, A History to 1837, was published in 1992 but has been out of print for decades. Researchers went looking for Volume 2, 1837-1900, and we discovered it had never been printed.
Where was it? Lying forgotten in the archives of the Eastern Townships Resource Centre!
Now both volumes have been brought to life in an exciting two-volume set, with new images, new maps, a new timeline, and new commentaries. Plus, cover art by Townships artist Denis Palmer.
Who’s publishing it? The Townships Sun, the Eastern Townships Resource Centre, and Shoreline Press have joined forces to publish this riveting read by Bernie Epps, well known Townships writer and historian. (Thanks to the Bélanger-Gardner Foundation for supporting this initiative.)

Here’s what Matthew Farfan, Executive Director of the Quebec Anglophone Heritage Network (QAHN), says about the books:
“History isn’t boring; historians are boring.” I’ve never forgotten that very first sentence of Bernard Epps’ 1992 book The Eastern Townships Adventure, Volume 1. And I always wondered whatever happened to Volume 2 which, of course, I now know was written but never published. Until now! Which is great news because Epps wasn’t just an excellent researcher; he was also a very colourful writer. His stories of the characters and events and intrigues that shaped the early years of the Eastern Townships are anything but boring. They are lively and interesting and they help to bring the past back to life.
