An Excellent Researcher, A Colourful Writer
“History isn’t boring; historians are boring.” I’ve never forgotten that very first sentence of Bernard Epps’ 1992 book The Eastern Townships Adventure, Volume 1. And I always wondered what ever happened to Volume 2 which, of course, I now know was written but never published. Until now! Which is great news because Epps wasn’t just an excellent researcher; he was also a very colourful writer. His stories of the characters and events and intrigues that shaped the early years of the Eastern Townships are anything but boring. They are lively and interesting and they help to bring the past back to life.” (Matthew Farfan, Executive Director, Quebec Anglophone Heritage Network)
